Characters

Harold is the one who pauses. He's not brave exactly — he just doesn't know how to be anything other than open. If there's a word for what Harold is, it might be faithful but he'd never use that word himself.

Luce is the voice of reason. She speaks with her whole body, paws chopping at the air, shoulders squared, every argument airtight. She is not wrong about any of it, until Egg.

Harley is a simple meerkat. He feels everything at full volume but has no language for any of it. Whatever comes at Harley goes straight in, and sometimes right back out.

The World

Living in a small corner of a vast desert, the story of Harold, Luce and Harley takes place in burrow dug into a mound of dry earth, decorated with things the world discarded. Inside, warm packed earth walls, found-object furniture, a shaft of daylight, a home built from scraps by creatures who don't know they're small.
